Video: Canadians Hold Press Conference to Keep Kyoto Alive
In a press conference this morning, Canadian political representatives and civil society organizations called on the federal government to support a second commitment phase of the Kyoto Protocol. Labour, First Nations, environmental, youth, development, and faith groups spoke out to demand Canada withdraw its current position on Kyoto, which threatens to derail the Cancun talks as well as any subsequent UNFCCC negotiations.
Canada, Japan and Russia are currently openly blocking the continuation of the Kyoto Protocol. Over 180 countries are calling for the continuation of this critical international treaty, the only legally-binding international instrument that requires cuts to greenhouse gas pollution.
