Canadian Fairy Tales
In a meeting with Canadian negotiators this morning, I learned that Canada does not think that developing countries will abandon the UNFCCC if the Kyoto Protocol dies. Developing nations have been known to protest negotiations when the global north is being unreasonable, like last year in Copenhagen when they staged a walk-out when discussions of Kyoto came up.
It seems as though Canada has learned nothing from history. In the government’s mind the issue of climate debt doesn’t exist, we have an amazing climate policy, and the G77 and other developing nations need technology transfer so badly that they will never leave the UNFCCC.
As shown by yesterday’s Fossil of the Day, it must be nice to live in the world of fantastical myth where climate change doesn’t matter and developing nations aren’t knee deep in climate injustice.
